Shorter Days, Low Mood and Heavy Mornings — An Autumn Note for Expats in Busan

Late October, nothing in particular has gone wrong, yet everything feels heavier and getting up is harder. Why shorter days pull mood and sleep down together, and a daily routine that helps.

요약limda k-medical clinic (경희림다한의원) is next to Park Hyatt Busan in Marine City, Haeundae, uses an EEG-based stress reading to look at tension and recovery, treats in English, and welcomes walk-ins. Low mood and heavy mornings in autumn often follow shorter days, which shift the body clock and sleep; 15 minutes of morning light, a fixed wake-up time and a daily walk come first.

Autumn mood and sleep for expats in Busan

limda k-medical clinic (경희림다한의원) is next to Park Hyatt Busan in Marine City, Haeundae, uses an EEG-based stress reading to look at the balance between tension and recovery, treats in English, and you can walk in without an appointment. We are open weekdays 10:00–19:00 and Saturdays 09:00–17:00, about a 10-minute walk from Dongbaek Station. We are in Haeundae-gu on the east side of Busan, not in the Nampo-dong or Jagalchi area of Jung-gu. Measurements take about 15 minutes and treatment 40 minutes.

limda k-medical clinic (경희림다한의원) is on the first floor of I’Park Tower 1 in Marine City, Haeundae, and our doctors and all staff speak English, and a Chinese-speaking doctor is on site — no interpreter booking needed.

From late October we hear a different kind of sentence: "Nothing is wrong, I just feel flat." "Getting out of bed is so hard." For expats far from family, the season can land harder. When the days shorten, mood and sleep tend to move together.

Why autumn pulls you down

  1. Less morning light — the body clock sets itself by morning light. When sunrise comes later, the body still thinks it is night, and mornings get heavy.
  2. Sleep drifts later — longer evenings mean more screen time and a later bedtime.
  3. Less movement — cooler days mean less walking, and a less tired body sleeps more lightly.

A daily routine that helps

  1. Fix your wake-up time — no more than an hour later at weekends.
  2. 15 minutes of morning light — walk part of the way to work, or have your coffee by a window.
  3. Walk in the daytime — 15 minutes after lunch; the Marine City seafront or the path around Dongbaek Island is ideal.
  4. Screens off an hour before bed — dim the lights and take a warm shower.

What we do

We look at the balance of tension and relaxation with an EEG-based stress reading, and at sleep, digestion and energy through pulse diagnosis and conversation. LIMDA AcuNap is about 40 minutes of acupuncture and rest in a dark, quiet private room, and if useful we prescribe herbal medicine 15 days at a time. At your next visit we measure the same way to compare.

Frequently asked questions

Q. Can I walk in without an appointment?

Yes. Walk-ins are welcome on weekdays 10:00–19:00 and Saturdays 09:00–17:00; booked patients are seen first, so there may be a short wait.

Q. Is feeling low every autumn an illness?

Usually not; it is a common seasonal change. If it goes on long enough to make daily life hard, do not carry it alone and get it looked at.

Q. Does the EEG reading hurt?

No. It is a non-invasive measurement taken while you sit still.

Q. I take sleeping pills. Can I still come?

Yes. Do not stop them on your own; adjust them with the doctor who prescribed them.
