Docked in Busan for a Day? Fitting a Korean Medicine Visit Around Your Ship

Cruise calls in Busan are short. You dock in the morning, you sail before dinner, and somewhere in between you are expected to see a temple, eat something, and be back at the gangway with time to spare. Guests often ask whether a Korean medicine visit fits into that window at all. It usually does, but only if the visit is planned around the ship rather than the other way round.

How long a visit actually takes

A first visit here runs about 60 to 90 minutes from the moment you sit down. That includes the consultation, pulse reading, the treatment itself, and time to get dressed and ask questions afterwards. If you are coming with a herbal consultation in mind, allow the full 90 minutes. Add travel time from the pier at each end and you are looking at roughly three hours door to door.

Getting here from the pier

We are in Marine City, Haeundae, on the ground floor of I-PARK T1, next to Park Hyatt Busan. From the cruise berths in the port area, a taxi takes roughly 30 to 40 minutes depending on traffic, and the expressway along the coast is usually the faster route. By subway it is closer to an hour with one transfer, ending at Dongbaek or Jung-dong station and a short walk. Most guests take a taxi in and the subway back, or the other way around if they want to see the city.

What a first visit includes

We start with a consultation and pulse reading. This is the part that surprises first-timers: the doctor spends several minutes simply reading the pulse at both wrists and asking about sleep, digestion, and where the body has been complaining lately.

Treatment is usually AcuNap, our name for acupuncture combined with pharmacopuncture, electroacupuncture, infrared warming, and physical therapy in a single session. The room is dark and quiet, it lasts about twenty minutes, and most people fall asleep. Guests describe it as closer to a meditation than to what they expected acupuncture to feel like. We do not do chuna manipulation; the work here is gentle release of the muscles.

A guest I remember

A couple from a spring cruise came in with the same complaint: eleven days at sea, a cabin bed that was too soft, and backs that had stopped forgiving them. They had two and a half hours. We treated both, one after the other, and the husband slept through his entire session and apologised for it afterwards. What I remember is the message the wife sent from the next port, saying her husband had walked the whole of the old town that day without sitting down. That is the honest scale of it: not a cure, but a few days that go better than they would have.

Herbal medicine, and getting it home

If a herbal prescription makes sense for you, we prepare it as a fifteen-day course, made individually at our compounding pharmacy rather than pulled off a shelf. Fifteen days is our standard unit: after that we talk again and write a new prescription for the body as it is then, not as it was.

For travellers we pack the fifteen days in travel pouches that go in hand luggage, and we can ship the continuation internationally. Several guests have carried on by message from later ports.

Languages and booking

English is spoken directly by the doctor, so an English consultation can be booked at short notice. Japanese, Chinese, and other languages are arranged with an interpreter, which we need about 48 hours to prepare. We work entirely by appointment. You may come without one, but booked patients are seen first and you could wait, which is not a risk worth taking on a port day.

Visitors without Korean national health insurance are treated privately; we explain the cost before anything begins and accept international credit cards. Tell us your all-aboard time when you book, and if the timing is too tight we will say so rather than rush the treatment.

Book on WhatsApp at +82-10-7925-6248, WeChat at 林茶韩医院LIMDA, LINE at @533ntugz, or through limda.co.kr/booking. We are registered with the City of Busan as a medical institution for foreign patients, registration no. M-2026-02-07-709023, so English receipts and certificates of treatment for your insurer are routine for us.

When to go to a hospital instead

Chest pain, sudden weakness or numbness on one side, slurred speech, a severe headache that arrived out of nowhere, high fever, or a new injury from a fall on deck are reasons to go to an emergency department, not to us. Busan has large hospitals with international desks, and your ship's medical officer can direct you. Come to us for the stiff back, the jet lag, the sleep that has not been right since you boarded.
