I am a mother of two children born a year apart, and autumn trips with small children taught me this pattern well: a child who runs around all day starts coughing the moment the lights go off.

Why the cough comes at night
- Mucus runs down the throat — standing up, a runny nose drains forward; lying down, it drains backward and triggers a cough.
- Dry air — hotel rooms with air conditioning or heating are drier than home.
- The tail of a cold — the cold is over but the airways stay sensitive for two to three weeks.
What helps in a hotel room
- Humidity — hang a wet towel near the bed, or run a hot shower with the bathroom door open before bedtime.
- Clear the nose before sleep — saline spray or a warm wet cloth over the nose.
- Raise the head slightly — an extra folded towel under the pillow.
- Lukewarm water — a few sips before sleep and when your child wakes.
How a family visit works
If check-ups show nothing serious but your child coughs through every change of season, we look at more than the nose and chest: appetite, sleep and how easily they tire. For children who are scared of needles we use press-on sticker acupuncture, and if useful we prescribe herbal medicine matched to the child's weight, 15 days at a time. In the family room, parents can stay right beside the child.
Frequently asked questions
Q. Can I walk in without an appointment?
Yes. Walk-ins are welcome on weekdays 10:00–19:00 and Saturdays 09:00–17:00; booked patients are seen first, so there may be a short wait.
Q. From what age can a child be seen?
From the time a baby has started solid food. Children afraid of needles start with sticker acupuncture.
Q. Can my child take herbal medicine with cough medicine?
Usually yes. Bring the medicine with you and we will check it and advise on timing.
Q. Can we take herbal medicine home?
Yes. It comes in sealed pouches for travel and can also be shipped abroad.
