limda Facial at limda k-medical clinic in Marine City, Haeundae — facial care that works with your own muscles

Does the face in the mirror feel a little unfamiliar lately?

limda k-medical clinic (경희림다한의원) is next to the Park Hyatt Busan, and five measurements — pulse and constitution reading, body composition, EEG stress, and 3D facial analysis — take about 15 minutes.

"People keep telling me I look tired because my nasolabial folds have deepened." "In photos, one corner of my mouth always sits lower than the other." "Since a cosmetic procedure, my face feels oddly stiff when I smile."

Changes in the face don't happen overnight, so by the time we notice them, they have often been weighing on us for a while. Search for what to do and the options are endless, yet it is hard to know which one suits you, especially if you have tried something before and it was not what you expected.

Today we look at why the face sags, and why bringing your own facial muscles back into use is the approach that lasts.

Why does the face sag?

The face is built in layers: muscle sits on bone, and fat and skin cover the muscle. With age, these layers change together.

· Muscle: the muscles that make our expressions grow thinner and weaker. At the same time, some muscles we use a lot become knotted with tension. The side we don't use droops; the side we overuse turns into lines. · Fat: the fat pads that support the face shrink and slide downward, creating nasolabial folds and hollow cheeks. · Posture and habits: forward head posture, chewing on one side and rounded shoulders pull the face down and to one side. Asymmetry is often not a problem of the face alone.

Does working the muscles really make a difference?

There is research on it.

In a study in which women aged 40 to 65 did facial muscle exercises regularly for 20 weeks, upper and lower cheek fullness increased, and the age that dermatologists estimated from photographs fell by about three years on average (Alam et al., JAMA Dermatology, 2018). This describes the participants of that study; responses differ from person to person.

Facial muscles are attached directly to the skin, so when the muscles are toned, the skin and volume above them are supported too. Rather than filling something in from the outside, the idea is to restore the support that comes from within. That is why we aim for a natural look in which your expressions remain your own.

A preliminary study of cosmetic facial acupuncture also reported improvement in measures of facial elasticity after 10 sessions over five weeks (Yun et al., Evidence-Based Complementary and Alternative Medicine, 2013).

If your face feels unnatural after a procedure

Quite a few people come to us saying "my expression feels stiff since a procedure" or "one side feels puffy." We understand how much that discomfort can bother you, every time you look in the mirror.

For these patients, limda first looks at the current state of the facial muscles and circulation. We release muscles that have stiffened, wake up muscles that have weakened, and look at swelling and circulation together, with the aim of helping you find your natural expression again. If you are troubled by discomfort or side effects after a procedure, please feel free to come in and tell us about it.

How limda sees it

At limda, the goal of treatment is to reawaken the body's own capacity to recover. The face is no different. We look beyond the visible lines to the muscles, circulation and posture beneath them, and you set the direction together with the director in a one-to-one consultation.

1. First, we look closely

A 3D facial analysis shows left-right differences and the direction of sagging that are hard to see with the naked eye. Pulse diagnosis and a constitution consultation also tell us about the circulation and condition that affect the face.

2. Waking up your own muscles — limda Facial

With hands trained in treating facial palsy, we work in fine detail on the tension and sagging of each facial muscle.

· Facial acupuncture: aims to release stiff muscles and wake up drooping ones, restoring the strength that supports the facial contour. · Thread lifting: dissolvable threads support sagging areas, helping muscle and skin settle back into place. Whether it is needed, and where, is decided together at consultation. · Posture and asymmetry: we also look at tension in the neck, shoulders and jaw to reduce what pulls the face downward.

We work to keep swelling and bruising light so that you can go back to your day right after treatment. The first visit, including consultation and analysis, takes 60–90 minutes.

3. So you can carry it on at home

Muscles come back to life as you use them. To help you keep the muscles we wake up in the treatment room, we show you a few simple habits suited to your face.

Your time at limda

Every treatment room is private. We adjust the lighting and temperature so that the time you spend lying down with your make-up off feels comfortable.

After treatment we serve a cup of herbal tea to help settle the warmth in your face, and you have plenty of time in front of the mirror to look at your expressions slowly. Consultations are in English, one of our doctors consults directly in Mandarin Chinese, and Japanese interpreting is arranged with 48 hours' notice. Women doctors see you.

Who this may suit

· People told they always look tired because their nasolabial folds have deepened · People bothered by facial asymmetry or one drooping corner of the mouth · People whose expression feels unnatural, or who still have discomfort, after a procedure · People who would rather avoid injections and prefer a natural change

Frequently asked questions

Q. Is one session enough?

Muscles need time to settle, so the number of sessions and the interval between them are set together at consultation, according to your condition.

Q. I had a cosmetic procedure recently. Can I still be treated?

Tell us which area was treated and when, and we will decide whether and how to proceed accordingly.

Q. Does it hurt?

We use fine needles made for the face and work in limda's way, keeping discomfort to a minimum.

Q. How much does it cost?

Visitors without Korean national health insurance pay out of pocket; fees are posted at limda.co.kr/fee-schedule and confirmed before anything begins. Residents with Korean national health insurance (ARC) are covered for acupuncture, electro-acupuncture and physical therapy.

Q. Do I need an appointment?

Appointments are prioritized, and walk-ins are welcome on weekdays 10:00–19:00 and Saturdays 09:00–17:00.

Before you fill anything in, try waking up the strength your face already has. In the end, the face that looks most like you is shaped by your own muscles.
