Cupping Therapy in Busan: Does It Hurt, How Long Do the Marks Last, Can I Fly After?
The three questions visitors ask before trying cupping in Busan, answered first: how it feels, how long the marks stay, and whether you can fly afterwards. Then dry and wet cupping, and how a session works in English.

Cupping in Busan, in three answers: it feels like a firm pull followed by warmth and is not painful for most people; the round marks fade in three to seven days; and yes, you can fly afterwards. limda k-medical clinic (경희림다한의원) is a Korean medicine clinic next to Park Hyatt Busan in Marine City, Haeundae, where cupping (buhang, 부항) is done by licensed doctors of Korean medicine, with consultation in English.
limda k-medical clinic (경희림다한의원) is a 10-minute walk from Dongbaek Station (Busan Metro Line 2), and consultations are by appointment only and one-to-one, with no waiting room.
limda k-medical clinic (경희림다한의원) is on the ground floor of iPark Tower 1, a ten-minute walk from Dongbaek Station on Busan Metro Line 2, and works by appointment. Treatment takes 40 minutes; allow about 90 minutes for a first visit.
Does cupping hurt?
A cup is placed on the skin and the air is drawn out, so skin and the muscle just beneath are lifted. What you feel is a strong pulling sensation for the first minute, then warmth as blood flow increases. Most people find it relaxing, and many say the tight spot between the shoulder blades finally lets go. The suction is adjusted to you; say so if it feels too strong and we reduce it at once.
How long do the marks last?
Three to seven days, lighter each day. The circles are blood drawn into the tissue under the cup, which is why they appear without any impact. If you have a beach day, a wedding or a photo shoot coming, tell us before we start and we keep the cups away from areas that will show.
Can I fly after cupping?
Yes. Cupping does not stop you from flying, and many visitors come in on the day before departure to loosen the neck and back for a long flight. Drink water before and after, keep the area covered and warm in the cabin air, and tell us your flight time when you book so we can plan the session around it.
Dry and wet cupping
There are two forms, and we do both.
- Dry cupping — the skin stays intact. The cups lift the fascia and bring blood flow to tight muscle. This is what most visitors receive.
- Wet cupping — a few tiny pricks are made with a sterile, single-use lancet before the cup goes on, so a small amount of blood is drawn. In Korean medicine it is used for acute stiffness and after injuries.
Which one fits is decided with you during the consultation.
How a session works
Cupping at our clinic is one layer of a LIMDA AcuNap session: acupuncture for the deep muscle, pharmacopuncture where tissue needs help recovering, electroacupuncture, infrared heat, and cupping to open the surface. The doctor first checks how you move, then treats. You rest in a quiet, dimly lit room and many people fall asleep.
What it is good for
- Tight upper back and shoulders from desk work
- A stiff neck after a long flight
- Sore muscles after hiking, running or training
- The knot under the shoulder blade that is hard to reach
Before you come
Tell us about any medication you take, especially blood thinners, and whether you are pregnant. We adjust the method and the areas accordingly.
After the session
- Drink water.
- Leave the sauna, jjimjilbang and alcohol for the next day.
- Shower with lukewarm water that evening.
- Keep the area covered in air conditioning.
Cost
Travelers pay the non-insured rate, and we tell you the cost before treatment begins. If you live in Korea with an Alien Registration Card and National Health Insurance, dry cupping done as part of a treatment visit is an insured item. We issue itemized receipts in English.
