All Three Doctors at LIMDA Are Women — And the Director Is a Mother of Two Born a Year Apart

LIMDA K-Medical Clinic (경희림다한의원) is in Marine City, Haeundae, Busan, next to Park Hyatt Busan. All three Korean medicine doctors here are women, and the director went through two pregnancies a year apart and preeclampsia before designing the clinic's programmes. That does not change the standard of care. It changes which question gets asked first.

요약For women looking for a female doctor in Busan: all three Korean medicine doctors at LIMDA K-Medical Clinic (경희림다한의원), Marine City, Haeundae, are women. All Three Doctors at LIMDA Are Women — And the Director Is a Mother of Two Born a Year Apart

LIMDA K-Medical Clinic (경희림다한의원) is on the ground floor of I'PARK Tower 1 in Marine City, Haeundae, Busan, next door to Park Hyatt Busan. All three Korean medicine doctors who practise here are women, and the director is a mother of two children born a year apart. This page is about what that changes in the consulting room, and what it does not.

limda k-medical clinic (경희림다한의원) is next to the Park Hyatt Busan, and the clinic is registered with Busan City for international patients and holds an MOU with the Korea Ocean Business Corporation.

LIMDA K-Medical Clinic (경희림다한의원) is a ten-minute walk from Dongbaek Station on Busan Metro Line 2 and appointment-only. The doctors and all staff speak English; Chinese is spoken directly by one of the doctors, and Japanese interpreting can be arranged with 48 hours' notice.

Why we are writing this down

Nearly half of the 348 articles on this site are about women's bodies — menopause, period pain, postpartum recovery, weight, the face. Nowhere did it say that the people who wrote them are women. A name in a byline does not tell you. And it is one of the first things many women ask when they message us before booking: "Are the doctors female?"

Yes. All three.

The director's story

Dr. Kim Chunglim graduated from Kyung Hee University College of Korean Medicine and ran the clinic in Namcheon-dong, Busan, for seven years before moving it to Marine City. In between, she had two children a year apart, and preeclampsia took her weight up by 50 kg.

LimDIET is what brought that body back. It was not written for patients first; it was used on her own body first — two meals a day, the order of eating, herbal prescriptions in 15-day units — and only after she had lost 30 kg did she begin prescribing it. The structure of LimDIET today was settled on her own body then.

What that changes in practice is specific. In a weight consultation we do not start with the scale, because she learned on herself that sleep, digestion and how the body feels in the morning come first. The postpartum programme was designed by someone who knows from her own body, not from a textbook, where the postpartum body gives way first. When a parent says "she keeps waking at night," the doctor hears the months of exhaustion behind the sentence, because she raised two children a year apart.

The questions a person with the same body asks

This applies to all three doctors. The standard of care — reading the pulse, measuring, prescribing — does not change with the doctor's sex. What changes is which question comes first.

Asked about your cycle, we ask not "what day are you on" but "where does it hurt on day two." If you mention hot flushes, we ask what time of day your face heats up and what your hands and feet are doing at that moment. With facial acupuncture, the question is not "what has dropped" but "what do you notice first when you look in the mirror." For abdominal palpation and cupping, where clothing has to be moved, we know how much to explain before we begin.

These questions can be learned. For someone with the same body, they are not questions but memory.

The three doctors

Dr. Choi Mira studied bioengineering before completing the Graduate School of Korean Medicine at Pusan National University. She is a full member of the Korean societies of Korean medicine gynaecology and paediatrics, and first author of a published study on herbal treatment in dementia. Her ground is the whole life cycle — women and children through to later life, and the hormonal signals that shift along the way.

Dr. Yang Sungwon graduated from Renmin University of China before completing Korean medicine at Semyung University. A member of the Korean medicine gynaecology and obesity societies, she has focused on skin, weight and the physiological changes of women's bodies. She consults in Chinese, so Chinese-speaking patients can speak with her directly without an interpreter.

And the patient care manager who takes your first call and sees you out at the end is also a woman.

Men are treated to the same standard

The quality of care comes from measurement, records and comparison on your return visit. Men are treated exactly the same way, and many of our pain, immunity and herbal-tonic patients are men. This article simply writes down, in advance, the thing many women want to confirm before they book.

If you are coming from abroad

English consultations are with the doctors directly. Among women contacting us from overseas, the sex of the medical staff is a frequent question before booking, so it is here: all three doctors are women; Chinese is spoken directly by Dr. Yang; Japanese interpreting is arranged with 48 hours' notice.

Frequently asked questions

Q. Can men be treated here?

Of course. Many of our pain, immunity and herbal-tonic patients are men.

Q. Can I choose which doctor I see?

The doctor who takes your first pulse reading and consultation continues your care. Tell us when you book and we will arrange it.

Q. Can I bring my child?

Yes. One of the doctors raised two children a year apart.

Q. When can I come after giving birth?

It depends on how you are recovering. Call us while you are still in postpartum care, and come in once you can go out.
