Women's Wellness at LIMDA — Period Pain, PMS, Irregular Cycles, Postpartum and Menopause, Treated in English

The English pillar for women's health: why cycle problems and menopause are autonomic-and-circulation problems, what we treat (period pain, PMS, irregular or light periods, PCOS-related cycles, postpartum recovery, perimenopause and menopause), when we send you for tests first, what a course looks like, and the FAQ foreign women ask most.

Women's Wellness at LIMDA — Period Pain, PMS, Irregular Cycles, Postpartum and Menopause, Treated in English

Many foreign women in Busan tell us the same thing: "I didn't know there was an option between painkillers and hormones." Korean medicine has treated women's cycles for centuries, and the logic is modern: the cycle, the gut, sleep and the stress system are one network. This page explains what we do, and what we don't.

What we treat

  1. Period pain — the kind you've made painkillers normal for.
  2. PMS — swelling, cravings, mood swings in the week before.
  3. Irregular, late or suddenly light periods — including cycles tied to rapid dieting, stress or PCOS (after gynaecological diagnosis).
  4. Postpartum recovery — fatigue, cold, aches, the first 100 days.
  5. Perimenopause and menopause — hot flushes, night sweats, sleep, mood, weight gain.

Why it works: autonomic balance and pelvic circulation

Cycle hormones and the autonomic nervous system talk to each other constantly. Chronic stress keeps you in sympathetic "on" mode: pelvic blood flow drops, cramps worsen, PMS swelling and mood swings amplify; in menopause the same over-alert system exaggerates flushes and insomnia. Acupuncture and electroacupuncture shift the balance toward parasympathetic recovery (measurable as heart-rate variability), open pelvic circulation, and warm a cold pelvis — the most common background to women's pain. Herbal medicine, prescribed to your pattern after consultation, supports the cycle over months. For menopausal hot flushes, a randomised trial in the journal Menopause (2016) reported fewer vasomotor symptoms after six months of acupuncture, with benefit persisting after treatment ended. For period pain, reviews (Cochrane 2016 and others) report pain reduction with caveats about study quality — we position it honestly as a way to need fewer painkillers.

Tests first, when needed

Severe pain not controlled by painkillers, sudden heavy or very light flow, bleeding between periods, menopause-like symptoms before 40, no period for three months, possible pregnancy: gynaecology first (endometriosis, fibroids, thyroid, early ovarian insufficiency must be ruled out). We refer, then treat alongside.

A course

Period pain: start the week before your period, across 2–3 cycles. PMS: the week before. Menopause: studies use months; we start weekly and taper. Sessions are AcuNap — lower-abdomen, low-back and leg points, gentle e-stim, infrared heat on the abdomen; 20 quiet minutes. Hormone therapy or the pill can be combined — tell us, and never adjust prescriptions without your prescriber.

FAQ

Q. Can I be treated during my period?

Yes; we adjust points and intensity on heavy days.

Q. I'm trying to conceive.

Pelvic circulation and autonomic stability are reasonable goals alongside your gynaecologist's plan; tell us if pregnancy is possible.

Q. Is it covered by NHIS?

Acupuncture visits, yes, for ARC holders. Custom herbal medicine is non-covered and quoted first.

Q. Female doctor?

Our director is a woman; consultations are in English.

Q. How soon?

Cycle changes usually need 2–3 cycles; flushes and sleep often shift within weeks.

Why Korean Medicine? The Science of Acupuncture and Self-Healing — Harvard, Mayo Clinic, and What We Do in Busan

Acupuncture is no longer "alternative." A Harvard Medical School team mapped how it calms inflammation (Nature, 2021); Mayo Clinic, Cleveland Clinic and MD Anderson offer it; US Medicare and the UK NICE guideline cover it for chronic pain. Here is what the research shows, why the principle is self-healing rather than suppression, and how LIMDA practices it in Marine City.
