Docked in Busan for One Day — A Cruise Passenger's Guide to Korean Medicine in Haeundae

Busan has become a regular stop on East Asia cruise itineraries, and a growing number of passengers now spend part of their shore day at a Korean medicine clinic rather than on another souvenir street. Here is how a port-call visit to LIMDA actually works, question by question.

Will it fit in a shore day?

In most cases, comfortably. From the cruise terminal, a taxi to Marine City in Haeundae takes roughly 20 to 30 minutes depending on traffic. The full first visit — consultation plus treatment — runs about 60 to 90 minutes. Passengers usually pair it with lunch near Haeundae Beach or a walk around Dongbaek Island and are back at the pier with time to spare. What actually happens in the session?

Three things. First, diagnosis: pulse reading, abdominal palpation, and a conversation about how you sleep, digest, and carry stress — cruise life tends to unsettle all three. Second, a 3D facial scan that records muscle balance and volume, which also serves as a baseline if you are curious about facial acupuncture. Third, AcuNap, our signature treatment: twenty minutes in a dark, quiet room with fine needles in place. Most people fall asleep, and many describe it as closer to meditation than to a medical procedure. Within that one session we combine acupuncture, pharmacopuncture, electroacupuncture, infrared heat therapy, and physical therapy.

In August, a couple came straight from their ship with four hours until all-aboard. The husband had slept badly the entire cruise — new bed, late dinners — and asked, half-joking, whether the needles would keep him awake. Yes. Herbal prescriptions are prepared individually at a dedicated external dispensary and packed in sealed single-dose travel pouches that keep at room temperature — easy to store in a cabin. Prescriptions are written in 15-day units, with a follow-up consultation before any new prescription; for visitors who have sailed on, we handle that follow-up remotely and offer international shipping to your home address.

What does it cost?

International visitors generally pay out of pocket. Pharmacopuncture and cosmetic facial acupuncture are non-covered items, and the full non-covered price list is posted on our website — so you will know the cost before treatment, not after.

One honest caveat: if something acute happens on your trip — sudden weakness or numbness, loss of bladder or bowel control, severe new pain — the right first stop is a hospital, not our clinic. For everything else travel does to a body, we are a short taxi ride from the beach.
