What "hanbang" means

Hanbang (한방) is the Korean word for traditional Korean medicine. You will also see hanuiwon (한의원), which means a Korean medicine clinic, and hanyak (한약), which means herbal medicine prescribed by the doctor. In Korea these clinics are run by licensed doctors of Korean medicine (한의사), who complete a six-year degree at a college of Korean medicine and pass a national licensing exam. It is a clinical visit, not a spa treatment.

What a first visit looks like

  1. Front desk — a short intake form, available in English.
  2. Measurements, about 15 minutes — body composition, an EEG-based stress reading and pulse diagnosis.
  3. Consultation — the doctor explains what was found and suggests a plan, in English.
  4. Treatment — LIMDA AcuNap in a private room: acupuncture, electro-acupuncture and infrared warmth, with cupping when it fits.
  5. Before you leave — what to do during the rest of your trip, and a herbal prescription only if the doctor thinks it is useful. Herbal medicine can be taken home or shipped abroad.

Why travellers stop in
