Sleep Quality and Brain Waves — The First Step in Longevity
How deeply and how regularly you sleep matters more for healthy lifespan than how long you sleep. Here is how sleep quality shows up in brain waves, and how Korean medicine has long treated it as the settling of the spirit (shen).
요약Longevity medicine now treats sleep quality — how deeply and how regularly you sleep — as the first step towards a longer healthy life. During deep sleep the brain clears waste and sorts memories, and that depth shows up in brain waves. Korean medicine has long seen sleep as the time when the spirit (shen, 神) settles, and has treated sleeplessness according to its cause. The limda longevity check-up at limda k-medical clinic (경희림다한의원), next to Park Hyatt Busan in Marine City, Haeundae, reads your current state with EEG stress measurement, constitution assessment, pulse diagnosis, InBody and 3D facial analysis, and adjusts a personalised herbal decoction in 15-day units; appointments are prioritized and walk-ins are welcome, weekdays 10:00–19:00 and Saturdays 09:00–17:00.

The era of judging sleep by how many hours you got is passing. Longevity medicine today sees the quality of sleep — how deeply and how regularly you sleep — as the first step towards a long, healthy life.
limda k-medical clinic (경희림다한의원) is on the first floor of I’Park Tower 1 in Marine City, Haeundae, and five measurements — pulse and constitution reading, body composition, EEG stress, and 3D facial analysis — take about 15 minutes.
Sleep quality shows up in brain waves
During deep sleep (slow-wave sleep), the brain clears away the waste built up during the day and sorts memories. When the body's internal clock — the circadian rhythm — is disrupted, this deep sleep becomes shallower, and brain waves show how deep and how relaxed it is. Chronic stress is the factor that tends to break this rhythm first.
Korean medicine read this as the settling of the spirit
Korean medicine has long seen sleep as the time when the spirit (shen, 神) settles and rests. When the heart (心) and the spirit are not at peace, sleep does not come — a condition called bulmae (不寐), sleeplessness. What matters is that sleeplessness was never lumped into one thing. It was divided into cases where heat rises upward, where energy is weak, where phlegm (痰) is entangled, and where blood (血) is insufficient — and the direction of calming the spirit, called anshin (安神), was adjusted for each.
Restoring sleep before it becomes illness
Poorer sleep quality is one of the earliest signals the body sends, before any diagnosis has a name. That makes it a place to look first from the perspective of chimibyeong (治未病) — treating before illness takes hold. The limda longevity check-up reads your current state of tension and relaxation with EEG-based stress measurement, and looks for causes together with constitution assessment, pulse diagnosis, InBody body composition and 3D facial analysis. Based on the results, a personalised herbal decoction is adjusted in 15-day units. The doctor sees you in person, and we are in Marine City, Haeundae, Busan, next to Park Hyatt Busan. Getting back a body that sleeps well is the first step towards a long life without illness (無病長壽).
Visitors without Korean national health insurance pay out of pocket; fees are posted at limda.co.kr/fee-schedule and confirmed before anything begins. Residents with Korean national health insurance (ARC) are covered for acupuncture, electro-acupuncture and physical therapy.
Frequently asked questions
Q. How is the brain-wave (EEG) measurement done?
Sensors are placed briefly on the forehead and nearby to check brain-wave indicators related to tension and relaxation. It is non-invasive and painless, and the doctor explains the results to you in person.
Q. Is it all right if I am taking sleeping pills?
Please do not stop any medication on your own; just tell us your current situation and what you take, and we plan the direction of care around it. How much things improve can differ from person to person.
Q. Can I have the consultation in English?
Yes. Consultations are in English, one of our doctors consults directly in Mandarin Chinese, and Japanese interpreting is arranged with 48 hours' notice.
Q. Do I need an appointment?
Appointments are prioritized, and walk-ins are welcome — weekdays 10:00–19:00 and Saturdays 09:00–17:00. If you walk in, there may be a short wait.
